A 24-year-old woman who was kidnapped while picking up her medication from her ex-boyfriend was rescued early Friday after authorities tracked them down in Crestwood, Illinois.
How It Happened
Around 1 a.m., the woman met her ex-boyfriend, Thomas Kozie, 25, near North Kenilworth Avenue in Oak Park to get her medication. However, instead of handing over the medication, Kozie forced her into her mother’s car, a black 2016 BMW 535I, and drove off toward North Boulevard, according to Oak Park police.
Once inside the car, the woman managed to text her mother, telling her she was scared and that Kozie refused to stop or let her out. Her mother quickly contacted the authorities, providing details about the BMW and her daughter’s phone location.
Police Locate the Suspect
By 1:50 a.m., Illinois State Police, along with Chicago police officers, tracked the car to 127th Street and Menard Avenue in Crestwood. Officers stopped the vehicle and arrested Kozie without any trouble.
Charges Against Kozie
Kozie was charged with:
✔ Possession of a stolen vehicle
✔ An out-of-state fugitive warrant from Iowa
Surprisingly, the woman decided not to press charges against Kozie.
What’s Next?
Authorities have not shared more details at this time. However, Kozie remains in custody due to the fugitive warrant from Iowa.
