A tragic car accident in Chicago’s West Garfield Park neighborhood on Sunday afternoon left a woman dead and four others injured, including three children, according to the police.

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. when a Lexus SUV heading west on West Lake Street struck a pole near the 4300 block. Inside the vehicle were a 30-year-old woman, a man, and three children.

Emergency responders rushed the woman to Mt. Sinai Hospital, but despite their efforts, she didn’t survive. The three children, aged 11, 13, and 15, were taken to Stroger Hospital, while the man was also sent to Mt. Sinai. All four remain in serious condition, authorities shared.

As of now, police have not issued any citations related to the accident, and further details about what caused the crash have not been released. It’s a heartbreaking situation, and the community is left in shock as they process this devastating event.
