A 35-year-old Chicago man, Kevin Henley Jr., has been charged in connection with the tragic shooting of a woman inside a nightclub in Stone Park, Illinois, earlier this month, according to police.
Henley was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, Stone Park police reported.
The victim, Zulma Calderon-Pacheco, 21, was shot and killed inside Mansion Nightclub on March 8. The Cook County medical examiner’s office ruled her death as a homicide.
Family Files Lawsuit Against the Club
Calderon-Pacheco’s family and her boyfriend of five years have now filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Mansion Live, the club where the incident happened. While Henley is not named directly in the suit, the lawsuit claims he was working as a security guard when the shooting occurred.
Court documents state that a fight broke out on the dance floor around 1:40 a.m., and during the chaos, Henley fired his gun, striking Calderon-Pacheco in the face.
The lawsuit also claims the nightclub had a history of violence, with multiple fights occurring in the past.
Attorney Speaks Out
The family’s attorney, Timothy J. Cavanagh, strongly criticized the actions of the security personnel.
“Security guards are supposed to protect people from harm, not be the cause of it,” he said in a statement. “Shooting a gun into a crowded dance floor is reckless and dangerous. Zulma’s family and her boyfriend are devastated and want answers.”
Mansion Live has not yet responded to requests for comment.
Court Hearing Scheduled
Henley is set to appear in court in Maywood on Tuesday as the case continues.
