In north Harris County, a late-night robbery attempt took an unexpected turn when the victim fought back against his attackers—who turned out to be a group of young kids.

It all unfolded just after midnight at an apartment complex on North Houston Rosslyn Road near Highway 249. According to Major Suarez from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, officers arrived at the scene to find a young boy, whose exact age hasn’t been revealed, suffering from several gunshot wounds. Emergency responders quickly rushed him to a trauma center, where he underwent surgery. At last check, he was still in the operating room.

As officers continued their investigation, they discovered two more children with gunshot wounds. Meanwhile, the man who fired the shots—described as both the victim and the shooter—came forward at the scene to turn himself in.

Here’s how the situation reportedly unfolded. Authorities believe the man was being robbed at gunpoint by four children, all between the ages of 12 and 14. However, the tables quickly turned when the man pulled out his own gun and fired at the group.

Three of the children, including the first young boy found, were taken to the hospital. Two of them are said to be in stable condition. The fourth child involved in the incident was detained, along with the man who fired the shots. According to Major Suarez, the man is cooperating fully with investigators.

Initial reports suggested the kids might have been using BB guns to carry out the robbery. However, Major Suarez explained that this hasn’t been confirmed yet. Deputies did recover several firearms at the scene, which are now being analyzed.

The case is far from over. A grand jury will ultimately decide whether the man who defended himself will face any charges in connection with the shooting.
