Williamstown, WV – Scott Allen Jones, a 41-year-old Williamstown man, was arrested early Thursday morning after allegedly attempting to disarm two police officers during an arrest.

The incident began when the Williamstown Police Department responded to a 911 hang-up call in the area of Highland Avenue and West Third Street. Officers approached Jones, who was reportedly walking on the Davinci’s restaurant lot around 3:41 a.m. During the interaction, Jones dropped a plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine. He was informed that he was under arrest.

As officers attempted to take him into custody, Jones allegedly resisted and tried to grab the duty weapons of Sgt. J.L. Ruble and Wood County Sheriff Sgt. R.A. Waters. Two Washington County Sheriff deputies arrived to assist, and Jones was eventually placed in a police cruiser.

While restrained, Jones reportedly managed to move his handcuffs from behind his back to the front and attempted to remove a shotgun secured in the vehicle’s gunlock. He was further restrained before being taken to Camden Clark Memorial Hospital for medical clearance.

Jones has been charged with three counts of attempting to disarm a police officer and was arraigned by Magistrate Don Lindsey. He is being held on a $150,000 bond.
