A man in Pennsylvania spent an entire month in jail after being falsely accused of trying to kidnap and assault a young woman in a supermarket parking lot. But as it turns out, the whole story was made up by the woman who accused him. On Thursday, Anjela Borisova Urumova admitted in court that she had fabricated everything. She pleaded guilty to several charges, including making false reports, tampering with evidence, and lying to authorities.

Judge Stephen Corr decided to hold off on her sentencing to allow time for a deeper investigation into her background before deciding her punishment.

Back in April 2024, Urumova claimed that Daniel Pierson, a 41-year-old man, attacked her outside a Redner’s supermarket in Middletown Township. She told police that Pierson had pulled her pants down and hit her in the face. At the time, she even had a cut on her lip, which seemed to back up her story.

Police took her claims seriously and started a full investigation. They reviewed surveillance footage from nearby stores and checked Urumova’s phone records. It didn’t take long for detectives to notice that her story didn’t add up. The evidence just didn’t match what she was saying. When investigators confronted her, Urumova finally admitted that she had made the whole thing up.

She also confessed to targeting Pierson specifically. She said she had seen him and his truck before and decided to describe him as her attacker because she thought he looked “creepy.” She even gave police a detailed description of his vehicle, a dark blue Ford F-150 with a “thin blue line” sticker and some rust and dents.

As for the injury on her lip, Urumova revealed that it wasn’t caused by an assault at all. She said she got hurt during an incident with her grandmother, who has dementia. According to Urumova, her grandmother didn’t recognize her when she came into the house and threw a plastic object at her, hitting her in the face.

Because of Urumova’s lies, Pierson was arrested and spent 31 days in jail facing serious charges. It wasn’t until the evidence proved his innocence that the charges were dropped, and he was finally released.

This case serves as a reminder of how important it is to thoroughly investigate accusations before jumping to conclusions. While Pierson’s name has been cleared, it’s hard to imagine the stress and hardship he went through during those 31 days in jail. Urumova is now facing the consequences of her actions as the court decides her sentence.
