Deamonte “Yak Gotti” Kendrick, a rapper and co-defendant in the high-profile YSL gang trial happening in Atlanta, was attacked while in jail over the weekend. His attorney shared on Monday that Kendrick was stabbed but is expected to recover fully since his injuries were minor.

The incident happened on Sunday at the Fulton County Jail, where Kendrick is being held while awaiting a jury’s verdict. He faces serious charges, including gang activity, murder, drug offenses, and gun-related crimes, alongside fellow rapper Young Thug.

Douglas Weinstein, Kendrick’s attorney, posted an update on social media, saying, “I did get to speak with him briefly last night. He sounded tired but was alert.” On Monday, Kendrick appeared in court with staples on his forehead, as reported by local media.

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the stabbing followed a fight with another inmate. Spokesperson Natalie Ammons explained that Kendrick received medical care for minor injuries caused by a sharp object. Officials are now investigating who started the altercation and whether more charges will be filed.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first violent incident tied to this case. Kendrick’s co-defendant, Shannon Stillwell, was also stabbed at the same jail last year. Both Kendrick and Stillwell are among 28 people charged in a massive case launched in 2022. Prosecutors claim the two were part of a gang called Young Slime Life (YSL), allegedly founded by rapper Young Thug—real name Jeffery Williams—back in 2012.

Young Thug recently pleaded guilty to several charges, including drug and gun-related offenses, as well as gang conspiracy. He’s now on probation with strict conditions, including being banned from Atlanta for 10 years, except under specific circumstances.

The YSL trial has gripped Atlanta for months, with its mix of celebrity, gang-related allegations, and violent incidents, like this latest attack on Kendrick, keeping the case in the public eye. Investigators are working to piece together what happened, while Kendrick and his co-defendants await their fates.
