York County, Neb. – In a dramatic turn of events, a Missouri man wanted for second-degree murder in Kansas was arrested after a hit-and-run incident on Interstate 80 in York County.

Authorities confirmed that John W. Adier, 49, of West Plains, Missouri, was taken into custody on Tuesday afternoon following a crash that led deputies straight to a major fugitive.

The York County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a hit-and-run around noon near mile marker 363 on I-80. The suspect’s vehicle, described as a black semi-truck pulling a cattle trailer, had fled the scene, prompting an immediate search.

Deputies later spotted the semi near the York Interchange and conducted a traffic stop. A routine records check soon revealed Adier’s shocking criminal background—he was wanted on a full extradition warrant from Kansas for second-degree murder.

Without resistance, Adier was arrested and transported to York County Correctional Facility, where he awaits extradition to Kansas to face the murder charge. In addition to the out-of-state warrant, he will also face local charges for leaving the scene of the crash.

The incident highlights the unpredictable nature of law enforcement operations, as a routine crash response ultimately led to the capture of a wanted murder suspect.

Authorities have not released further details regarding the murder case in Kansas, but Adier’s extradition is expected soon. The investigation into the hit-and-run remains ongoing.

This case underscores the importance of swift police action and thorough background checks, as what seemed like a traffic offense turned into a major arrest of a fugitive from justice.
