On the night of his 29th birthday, a man in Stoughton, Massachusetts, turned what should have been a celebratory evening into a horrifying nightmare. Paul O’Brien allegedly stabbed his mother, Kathleen Gaito, and his stepfather, Michael Gaito, multiple times, leaving them gravely injured inside their home. The attack unfolded in their apartment on Page Terrace, a neighborhood located about 20 miles south of Boston.

The gruesome incident came to light when police received a 911 call around 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 12. Officers rushed to the scene, finding two adults suffering from severe stab wounds. One victim was airlifted to a hospital in Boston, while the other was transported by ambulance. Both are currently being treated for serious injuries.

Shockingly, O’Brien himself made the 911 call, admitting to the attack. When asked by the dispatcher where he had stabbed his mother, O’Brien chillingly replied, “Everywhere.” He further said he had stabbed them “enough” and claimed, “They were both going to die.”

Inside the apartment, authorities discovered Kathleen lying face down in a pool of blood near the bathroom. Michael was found in the bedroom, where the attack reportedly began. A bloody knife was recovered at the scene. O’Brien, covered in blood, was waiting outside the building when police arrived, making no attempt to flee.

Michael Gaito, who managed to speak to police despite his injuries, said that he and his wife were sitting in their bedroom when O’Brien suddenly entered and began stabbing them repeatedly. The motive for the attack remains unclear, as authorities have not provided any further details.

O’Brien has been charged with two counts each of armed assault to murder on a person aged 60 or older, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person 60 or older, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious injury, and assault and battery. He is currently being held without bond, with a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Friday.

The names of the victims and details about the horrifying attack have left the quiet community of Stoughton in shock. Investigators are still working to piece together what led to this violent outburst, but for now, O’Brien faces serious charges as his mother and stepfather fight for their lives in Boston hospitals.
