A devastating crash on U.S. 61 in southern Dakota County has left one Burnsville resident dead and another seriously injured. The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, at the intersection of Highway 61 and 190th Street in Marshan Township.

The crash involved two vehicles: a southbound Chevrolet Silverado and an eastbound Hyundai Elantra. The Elantra, driven by Ramazan Ali Rahmani, 38, was crossing 190th Street, which has a stop sign, when it collided with the Silverado. Tragically, Ramazan lost his life in the crash, and his passenger, Mahdi Rahmani, 29, also from Burnsville, suffered severe injuries. Mahdi was rushed to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where his condition is critical.

The driver of the Silverado, Theresa Yvonne Fredin, 42, from Cannon Falls, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to Regions for treatment.

The Minnesota State Patrol confirmed that weather and road conditions were clear at the time of the crash, and alcohol was not a factor. Thankfully, both vehicles’ airbags deployed, and Ramazan was wearing his seatbelt.

Our thoughts are with the families affected by this heartbreaking event.
