A second man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a south Kansas City convenience store owner, a death linked to a dispute over stolen snacks. On Thursday, 25-year-old Justin J. Arbee was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of 65-year-old Zulfiqar “Joe” N. Ladhani, the owner of Joe’s Liquor and Convenience Store.

Ladhani was tragically killed on February 10, 2025, after confronting a suspect about a bag of chips and a drink that had been stolen from his store. Court documents reveal that the altercation quickly escalated, leading to Ladhani being shot multiple times outside his business on the 8000 block of Hickman Mills Drive. Police arrived at the scene around 6 p.m. and declared Ladhani dead at 6:14 p.m.

This incident initially led to the arrest of 25-year-old Kevin L. Herring, who was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in Ladhani’s death on February 21. The new charge against Arbee underscores the ongoing investigation into the tragic event that has left the community in shock.

The shooting has brought attention to the increasing violence in local convenience store robberies, with Ladhani’s death a painful reminder of the risks small business owners often face in trying to protect their livelihood. Authorities continue to investigate the case as both suspects await further legal proceedings.
