In St. Petersburg, Florida, a frightening wrong-way crash caused over $250,000 in damages and left a woman fighting for her life. The crash happened on Interstate 275 when a driver, later identified as Rontonio Scott, drove north in the southbound lanes, creating chaos on the highway.

Dashcam footage from one of the four vehicles involved showed Scott driving straight into oncoming traffic. The crash, which occurred on January 5, led to a major response from law enforcement. On Friday, Scott was arrested in connection with the incident.

When troopers arrived at the scene, they noticed clear signs that Scott might have been under the influence. They reported that he had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes, which raised immediate concerns. Tragically, two people were seriously injured in the crash, with one woman suffering life-threatening injuries.

Scott now faces several serious charges, including driving under the influence (DUI) involving personal injury, three counts of DUI involving property damage, and DUI involving serious personal injury. This isn’t his first run-in with the law for driving under the influence; records show he had a previous DUI conviction in 2018.

This devastating accident is a sobering reminder of the dangers of impaired driving. Authorities continue to stress the importance of staying sober behind the wheel to keep everyone on the roads safe.
